Welcome to the Interfaith Alliance's Action Center. Here you can directly take part in the issues we are currently working on.
The tendency to prejudge our fellow Americans because of perceptions – often misperceptions – based upon the color of their skin, their faith or their ethnic heritage, is something nearly everyone struggles with at some point in their lives; members of law enforcement are no exception. The need to combat this tendency and support the advancement of genuine religious freedom for all Americans is a huge part of why Interfaith Alliance supports the End Racial Profiling Act (ERPA) (H.R. 3618/S. 1670). Please take a moment today to ask your Representative and Senators to support this important legislation.
The prevalence of bullying and harassment in elementary, middle and high schools is a growing issue of national concern, and we need your help to put a stop to it. Please ask your member of Congress to support the bipartisan Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA) (H.R. 998/S. 555).
No adoption agency that receives taxpayer support should be able to discriminate against potential parents based solely on marital status or sexual orientation. Though this is unfortunately legal in many states, you can help change this by contacting your member of Congress and asking them to support the Every Child Deserves a Family Act today.
The prevalence of bullying and harassment in elementary, middle, and high schools is a growing issue of national concern and we need your help to put a stop to it. Please ask your member of congress to support the bipartisan Safe Schools Improvement Act (SSIA)
Please help Interfaith Alliance hold this season’s presidential
candidates accountable and remind them of their responsibility to our
Constitution by sending a letter to the leadership of the Republican and
Democratic National Committees. This letter stresses to the
leadership of both parties that religious freedom is a right accorded to
every American – and religion is not a political tool to be used to
advance candidates’ campaigns or criticize their opponents. The more
letters the DNC and RNC receive, the more weight our message will carry.
From distortions of our First Amendment, to a prejudice against and
intolerance of any religion that isn’t Christianity or any American who
doesn’t embrace their narrow definition of Christianity, the leaders of
the Religious Right have denigrated the religious freedom and pluralism
that makes our nation unique for far too long. They need to know
that America won’t stand for their uncivil and unconstructive words and
deeds anymore – and they need to hear it straight from you.
Since 1996, the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) has prevented same-gender marriages from being recognized as legal on a federal level. By repealing DOMA same-gender couples will no longer be denied rights because of one group’s theological beliefs. The Respect for Marriage Act (H.R. 1116/S. 598), currently in Congress, would right this national wrong by repealing DOMA. Please take a moment now to tell your Members of Congress know that you support marriage equality and want to see DOMA repealed.
On March 9, 2010 the White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships presented President Obama with recommendations that will bring the Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships in line with the Constitution’s guarantees of both religious freedom and the separation of religion and government.
Now the decision of whether or not to implement these recommendations is in President Obama’s hands.
While existing federal laws
prohibit workplace discrimination on the basis of race, religion,
gender, national origin and disability, no federal law exists to
protect employees from discrimination on the basis of real or perceived
sexual orientation or gender identity. In 30 states, an individual
can be fired, refused a job, demoted or denied a promotion based on his
or her sexual orientation, and in 38 states it is legal to do so because
of an individual’s gender identity.
